The Step by Step Guide to Success

The Step by Step Guide to Success

We’ve all seen it, we’ve all wanted it. We’ve all asked for it (yes I’m talking to you). So prepare for a little tough love…

Step by step guides to making money online are LIES.

It doesn’t matter who you are. It’s the honest to God’s truth. I’m not saying you can’t follow steps to achieve success or seek out a mentor to coach you in strategies. But following a “step by step” guide 100% and to the letter will get you absolutely NOWHERE. Here’s why (and it’s a pretty simple truth):

If there was a step by step guide to making money online that actually worked. EVERYONE WOULD BE RICH. The smart, the not-so-smart, mediocre and the extraordinary would all be financially independent and the world would be a very strange place.

To understand why step by step guides don’t work is to look at them like this:

Think of them as a hand drawn map that leads to a buried treasure. You follow the path, you climb the mountains and traverse the jungle. But chances are, when you get the to the end…the treasure has already been dug up by someone else reading the same map. On top of that? Everyone interprets things differently. That “tree” the maps says to take a left at, may look like a bush to you. Perhaps the tree was cut down recently? Perhaps the fork in the road has disappeared and been replaced with a new path.

At the end of the day, AVERAGE people follow a step by step guide.

The steps to success are as follows: Action – Connection – Leading.

That’s it.

No matter what you’re doing online. You need to take action. You need to actually DO something. Zig when everyone’s zagging or like Gary Vaynerchuck says, “Go Flintstones when everyone else is going Jetsons.”

Now let me be clear, when it comes to building something, step by step guides are great. If you’re trying to build a chair, or a website, or installing wordpress on your blog; guides are useful.

But there is absolutely NO step by step guide on how to develop a successful mindset. There is no guide on how to take action or connect with the right people. For that? You need to discover who YOU are as a person. Who do you connect and resonate with? What are you passionate about? Being successful doesn’t start with a process or guide. It begins with a decision. Afterwards it continues with a series of decisions that you make.

Success isn’t a one size fits all. But the successful mindset follows the same principles that I explained above.

  1. Don, It’s very refreshing to see someone speak the truth about Internet Marketing. Everything you wrote was spot on. You should create a $.99 Kindle book that shares this information, plus it might talk about “shiny object syndrome” and a few other pitfalls for newbies. Then on the other side give them some good resources that will help them take action; an autoresponder, a responsive WordPress site, etc. Keep up the good work! Scott

I’ve explored creating a little Kindle Book that can cover a few things like those above. At the end of the day though, I’ve learned to focus on one thing at a time. If I spread myself out too thin then I run the risk of lowering the quality and value to all my readers and students.

I most definitely will be doing a book. In fact, I’ve been working on one called “The Shift”. It will be at least 200 pages but until I get a few more things finished first, it won’t be released.

      Thanks again!
