Why the Rich Get Richer and the Poor Get Poorer?

Why the Rich Get Richer and the Poor Get Poorer?

I was having a conversation with one of my friends today and we got into the topic of wealth. I made the comment, “When I make my first million I can’t wait to get the most hardcore gaming computer the world has ever known.” (Yeah, I’m a nerd. Wanna fight about it? lol) Anyways, he said, “Doug, I don’t know why you keep kidding yourself. The rich will only get richer and the poor will only get poorer.” Really? You know what I think? I think he’s full of turds. He has what I call a “broke man’s mentality.” He’s convinced that he will NEVER achieve financial wealth. He’s convinced that in this world, only the privileged can make millions. And you know what? He’s right. But not like you make think. WE are the privileged. NOT because of our upbringing, NOT because of our “luck” and definitely NOT because of our educational background. It’s because of our mindset. With that said, I’ve grouped together with a few marketers to do a workshop about beliefs. Click the link below and raise your hand. It will take you to the first step. Even if you don’t go any further, the information on Step 1 is absolutely free to you and it will change your mindset without a doubt. I look forward to meeting you in the workshop. Why Gandalf Was the Greatest Marketing Professional of All Time

Why Gandalf Was the Greatest Marketing Professional of All Time

YOU SHALL NOT PASS! If you have been living under a rock for the last 60 years…it comes from Lord of the Rings and I’ve watched the cinematic trilogy…10 times or so, haha. In this particular scene, Gandalf the grey is the only thing standing between his comrades and a Balrog (think of a dragon mating with the Hulk and this would be their baby.) As the creature approaches them on the bridge, Gandalf stands firm, slams his staff down and yells… “YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!” Now if you actually haven’t seen the movie, I don’t want to give away what happens…but the reason I’m mentioning this specific quote is because of the reasoning and idea on why those words were said. You see, Gandalf had a choice. Either run with the pack and all of them perish? Or stand his ground to in an effort to save them all. This is a philosophy that I apply to Internet Marketing. Whether it’s the Lord of the Rings Trilogy or The Hobbit, one of the most beloved characters has been Gandalf; the great wizard. The interesting thing about his character though…is he never really blasted enemies into oblivion with fireballs or Isaac’s Greater Missle Storm (for your D&D nerds out there.) In fact, in contrast to the other characters of the story, Gandalf didn’t really “fight” all that much. So what makes him such a badass in the eyes of the readers/viewers? Let’s take a look at it from the perspective of The Hobbit and the first installment of Lord of the Rings. What is the one thing Gandalf did from...
What the Movie Goonies Taught Me About Internet Marketing

What the Movie Goonies Taught Me About Internet Marketing

So the other night I decided to watch the movie Goonies. It has a perfect blend of adventure, comedy, suspense, action and even a dash of romance. The movie quite honestly has proven time and time again as being one of the greatest movies ever made. It wasn’t just the “story” of the movie that made it so amazing. It did something that many movies just cannot do; build the dream. I remember as a child watching Goonies for the first time and being completely enthralled. I still joke around with my mother about how I made her call every toy store in Iowa City to see if they had the gadgets that Data made (bless her heart lol). The movie’s story to a child was so believable to me that I rummaged through boxes for the hope that I would somehow stumble across an old map that would lead me to buried treasure. Those were the days… Now after recently watching the movie, I began to look at it from a different perspective. These kids from the “Goondocks” did something so brave. They stepped out of their comfort zone and took a risk based off of a piece of paper. There was no guarantee that map would lead them anywhere. Yet they still chose to take the journey. There were many times they could have given up. One pivotal moment in the movie was when they were under the wishing well. Everyone wanted to go home. They were tired, exhausted and had lost their faith. It was only Mikey who reignited their faith by reminding them that even...
Is “Proof” Really Something You Need in Marketing?

Is “Proof” Really Something You Need in Marketing?

I’m an avid reader of Ben Settle. He has a really good style to his writing and I honestly enjoy reading 90% of his emails that come in. He had recently sent out an email in regards to the Warrior Forum respectively (and hilariously) titled, “Warrior Forum 90210”. Essentially someone had posted asking about him and it turned into a couple of pages of people agreeing and disagreeing with what his methods were. Now, whether you know about Ben or not. The fact is: HE IS LEGIT. He knows his stuff and is easily one of the best engaging emailers out there today. So whether you like him or not, the fact is that he’s well known, he’s successful and he knows what he’s doing. On the Warriorforum (or as he calls it, the ‘Worrier Forum”) this thread ended up turning into a talk about him not having any “Proof” to his claims. Some people were backing him up, other people weren’t. And someone said, and I quote, “Obviously proof is not the only thing… but my point the whole time is when you have proof, you don’t need to worry about that “other” stuff.” That “other stuff” being positioning, believability, etc. If you haven’t figured out by now, the Warrior forum; for the most part, is just rehashed gobbledygook that turns into a flame war and pissing match between who thinks who is right. Who claims their business is better, etc etc. If any of you have purchased a WSO there before…you’ll know what I mean. Most of the crap there is awful. So when it comes to “Proof”. Is...
I’m the Worst Dad Ever…

I’m the Worst Dad Ever…

Yesterday was a pretty hectic day for me. I was all over the place. Meetings, consultations, checking emails, etc. etc. For the last week and a half I’ve been so caught up in the balancing act of my personal life, my professional life and family life that something happened that just really put me on my ass. To give you a quick rundown if you haven’t really read up on me or asked, I’m a 30 year old guy. I’m about to be married to a remarkable woman in November. She’s going to become the step mom to my two awesome little guys who are 9 and 10 (in just a few short months they’ll be 10 and 11…man, time flies.) So long story short, I had received a text message from my Fiance and it was a video. When I opened it…my heart dropped. It was a video of my oldest son walking across the gymnasium stage in front of a bunch of people. It was his 5th grade graduation…and I totally missed it. For some of you this may not seem like a big deal, but here in the Midwest; 5th grade is the END of elementary school. Next year he starts middle school (grades 6th to 8th) and after that? My little guy is in high school. You see, to my son? He probably didn’t really think anything of it. “Dad’s busy, no biggie, SUMMER IS ALMOST HERE! NO MORE SCHOOL!!! WOOHOO!” But to me? “Doug, you just missed your son’s 5th grade graduation. What the hell kind of parent are you? You can’t go back...
Most People Die At 27…

Most People Die At 27…

…but they are buried at 72. That really hit home with me when I heard it once. Primarily because it’s true. Think about it, a majority of college graduates go to school and get their Master’s or Bachelors. They’re out by 25-30. They HOPEFULLY get a job they want…Then what happens? They stop dreaming. So they fall into the rut that most of us have before. They look to get that promotion. So they work harder. They want the new house, so they work harder and take more time away from their family to get “another promotion”. They do this day in and day out and before they know it…time’s up. What do they have to show for it? Well, for a majority of people…nothing. You see, the thing I’ve  learned over the course of having an entrepreneurial mindset is this: “Timing never gets better, you just get older.” So what are you waiting for? Start dreaming. You need to have a dream. What are you defending? Mediocrity?! You’re tired of getting picked on. You’re tired of working a dead end job. You’re tired of not providing for your family. So what on earth are you doing about it? I remember when I talked to my father at the tender age of 17. I was trying to explain to him about a business opportunity I was trying to get involved in. He was incredibly skeptical and bitter about it. He wasn’t a bitter man, he was just protective of his son because he had been burned a few times in his life. I remember asking him, “Dad, what about your dreams...
