Why “Dexter” Should Be An Email Marketer

Why “Dexter” Should Be An Email Marketer

I personally don’t have cable. It’s much too distracting. (hint hint) But I do enjoy catching up on certain shows online. One of my favorite TV shows is a show called “Dexter”. It’s about a serial killer who only kills other serial killers. I mean, come on! That right there should make you wanna watch it! lol Anyways, in this TV show, Dexter has a “code” that he follows. He has accepted the fact that he’s a killer, but he knows how to control his “urges” by focusing them on the “bad guys”. So although he’s kind of a bad guy himself, he’s still able to do  a little “good” by killing off the scum of Miami with his expertise in..well, murder. lol So it got me thinking… What makes Dexter so successful? What makes him able to never get caught? And it dawned on me… his “code” is very similar to what successful email marketers use. For starters, Dexter has an Avatar that he “markets” to. (AKA – That he goes after.) He goes after other murderers. Successful email marketers have an avatar they market to. Their avatar may be people trying to lose weight who are between the ages of 45-55 who have a heart condition. Maybe their avatar is a male college student between the ages of 20-24 who are studying business to go into business for themselves. It doesn’t matter what the avatar is. As long as it caters to the product you’re trying to market. What DOES matter is that you have an avatar. If you don’t have one, then you have no idea how to communicate effectively to your audience. For example, if...
5 Ways I Accelerated My Earnings

5 Ways I Accelerated My Earnings

I’ve said it a couple times and I’ll say it again. I’ve made a bunch of mistakes. And I know I’ll still be making them. One of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made is that I over complicated everything. Every tip my mentors gave me, every piece of advice I heard in a book or at a conference. I just kept thinking to myself, “There’s gotta be something they aren’t telling me. Some kind of secret of trick they are holding back.” And who knows, that might be partially true. It wasn’t until a couple of months ago that I finally “got it.” It wasn’t a secret or a magic word or some spell I brewed in my magic cauldron. It was just a few shifts in mindset and a few principles that I had to work on. Here they are: 1. Always be consistent and persistent.  The fact is you never know what will work or what doesn’t if you quit before you’ve even had a chance to see what works. That was one of my biggest faults. I just gave up too easily. 2. Duplicate what other successful people are already doing. If you really want to go far, all you do is find the people who are where you want to be and duplicate what they’re doing. Remember, you are who you hang out with. 3. You have a lot more power than you think. And don’t let anyone tell you differently. Power simply means “the ability to act”. You just have to decide to use it. Power is like a muscle. The more action you take, the easier it gets. Science has proven this to...
You’re Not a Loser…Are You?

You’re Not a Loser…Are You?

When I first started in IM, I tried so many offers, products and services to my list but was having little success. Infact, I was able to get a +50% opt-in for my list…but my conversions into sales of those subscribers were abysmal. Not to mention I started getting unsubscribes left and right. So I started thinking…what the hell was I doing wrong? So I started researching, talking to my mentors (success hint) and breaking down the process of what I was doing. It then occured to me. There are really only 5 reasons why people on my list are leaving…or not buying.  1. They Are Quitters  They’re like the people who go to the gym and work hard for 2 weeks; then quit because they didn’t see any results.  These people are not serious about their success. As a matter of fact I’m willing to wager that unless they get out of that mindset…they will be stuck in a job for the rest of their lives. Statistically, most people who stick around for longer than 90 days will be sticking around long term. And those who actually stick around???  …Make sales and CRAVE more information so they can make more.  And those who quit?  They do nothing with the info, make excuses and go back to their ordinary life of mediocrity.  2. They’re Freebie Seekers  This is the mark of a loser.  These people are unavoidable, they are who they are and if any of your offers are “free” or “giveaways”. You will attract them like flies on a turd.  3. I Haven’t Given Enough Value  In my...
Were You Ever Bullied?

Were You Ever Bullied?

Believe it or not, when I was in elementary to middle school, (Grades K-8th). I was picked on, bullied and quite frankly treated like filth. I could probably count on one hand how many “friends” I had during that time. Then the summer before my freshman year of highschool, I moved to Minnesota with my mom. I was able to start all over. From then on out, I transformed myself, I discovered myself and during my 9th grade year, I finally became “popular”. I became one of “the cool kids”. So now we fast-forward nearly 17 years…  Am I still a “cool kid?” Am I still popular? The answer is actually quite irrelevant. Because here’s what I discovered: “It isn’t who you hang out with that makes you popular. It’s who you become.” On top of that, it isn’t about what “cliques” and “groups” you are a part of. It’s who you associate yourself with. If you find yourself hanging out with a bunch of lazy asses, chances are you’re a lazy ass yourself. (Forgive the bluntness). If you’re hanging out or associating yourself with people who are convinced hard work at a J.O.B. to eventually retire is the way to go… chances are that’s what you’re doing now. So in order for you to BE something else. You need to ASSOCIATE yourself with people who are where you want to be. If you’re serious about moving forward in your life. You need to associate, listen and learn from the people who are already on the level you’d like to be. The MOBE Inner Circle does just that. Here’s...
Pro Tip – The Long “Thank You” Page Sucks Ass

Pro Tip – The Long “Thank You” Page Sucks Ass

Now something you need to know about this guy is that he’s quite a successful marketer. He’s been marketing full time since 2009 and has some incredible launches that bring him thousands of dollars on launch day. He came to me this morning and asked if I could take a look at his email sequence because he couldn’t figure out why people didn’t seem to open his emails after the first one. So like the awesome guy that I am I said yes. He’s a friend of mine after all. He sent me a word doc with this sequence of emails and I immediately saw the problem. …His first email. His “Thank You” email if you will. It was wayyyyyyy too long. Now don’t get me wrong here. The content of the email was fantastic! But it was just too damn long. So the analogy I gave him was this. *ahem* The opening email your readers receive is the very first impression they get of you. So there needs to be a balance. For example, if you and I just met and I said, “Hey there!” And you said, “Hello!” Then I said, “Hey! Would you like to know a good place to eat?” Then you said, “Sure!” Then I ended up going on a long rant for 10 minutes about why I know how to find a good place to eat… What would you do? You’d probably make a mental note to never talk to me again. haha Anyways, what I’m getting at is that this wasn’t a “newbie” mistake. It’s an oversight many marketers have. The great...
WHOA I Made Someone Mad!

WHOA I Made Someone Mad!

WHOA GUYS! lol Never did I imagine how many people I’d have upset with me over my last email about adding me on Facebook. I got messages from people saying: “DON’T EVER TALK TO ME LIKE THAT AGAIN!!!” “I can’t believe you’d talk to someone like that! How DARE you!” “You need to change your email subjects man. Not cool.” I even had a few unsubscribes. But you know what it also has gotten me so far? …35 friend requests and 2 sales. Anyways, that’s aside the point. What I REALLY wanted to share with you is my FAVORITE email I received this morning. It reads (WARNING: Explicit Language Below): —–Original Message—– From: Chris Mor*** [mailto:*******@yahoo.ca] Sent: Tuesday, September 7, 2013 7:31 AMTo: Doug Johnson Subject: Re: The SECRET to help you get your first $1,000 commission. What a bunch of bullshit SCAM you do not want a penny for it until i try it first but you want a credit card number..FUCK..Go suck COCK but the again yo are a cocksucker. My Reply? Well that’s quite a good way to get far in life, Chris. Bashing a guy that’s just offering an opportunity. If you paid attention to the sales letter, the $49 is a completely refundable application fee.Enjoy the rest of your day, and a little helpful advice; calling people names isn’t really the best way to communicate effectively. Have fun being broke. *tips hat*Doug You see, if I would have received this email last year, I would have been mortified. I would have profusely apologized or justified that it wasn’t a scam, etc. All in all?...
